The Best Olive Oil Soap: Why Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil Makes a Better Bar

The Best Olive Oil Soap: Why Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil Makes a Better Bar

Whether you're searching for the best olive oil soap for dry skin, a premium goat milk soap, or simply a handmade soap that feels luxurious every time you use it, there's one ingredient that makes all the difference: high-quality extra virgin olive oil.

At Rocky Mountain Olive Oil, we've spent years sourcing some of the world's finest ultra-premium extra virgin olive oils. Those same oils that people cook with every day also inspire another passion of ours—creating artisan olive oil soaps that transform an ordinary routine into something you'll actually look forward to.

Unlike many commercial soaps that use inexpensive oils or rely on heavy detergents, our goat milk soaps begin with premium extra virgin olive oil, nourishing ingredients, and fragrances inspired by the mountains we call home.

If you've ever wondered whether olive oil soap is actually better for your skin, the answer is yes—and here's why.

Why Olive Oil Has Been Used in Soap for Thousands of Years

Long before modern skincare existed, civilizations throughout the Mediterranean understood the remarkable benefits of olive oil for cleansing and moisturizing skin. Today, we know why. Extra virgin olive oil naturally contains:

  • Vitamin E
  • Polyphenols
  • Antioxidants
  • Healthy fatty acids
  • Natural emollients

These ingredients help support the skin's moisture barrier while creating a gentle cleansing experience that doesn't leave skin feeling stripped or overly dry. The difference, however, comes down to the quality of the olive oil.

Many soaps marketed as "olive oil soap" use highly refined oils or only a very small percentage of olive oil, but at Rocky Mountain Olive Oil, we start with the same premium extra virgin olive oils we proudly sell in our stores every day. While our seasonal selection rotates throughout the year, some of the olive oils most frequently used in our soaps include Arbequina, Arbosana, and Picual extra virgin olive oils—varieties known for their exceptional quality and rich natural composition. Because premium ingredients create premium soap.

Why We Combine Goat Milk and Olive Oil

People often ask us why we use both olive oil and goat milk. The answer is simple. They complement one another beautifully.

Goat milk has long been valued in artisan soap making because it creates a creamy, luxurious lather while helping produce a gentle cleansing bar. When paired with premium extra virgin olive oil, the result is a soap that's rich, silky, and wonderfully moisturizing. Our customers frequently tell us they notice:

  • Softer-feeling skin
  • A creamier lather
  • Less dryness after washing
  • A more luxurious everyday experience

Being that my family and I live in Colorado, we deal with a lot of dry weather. We have the most amazing water in Colorado, but we see 300+ days of sunshine. Couple that with the fact that it gets fairly cold in Colorado, and we often have major forest fires surrounding Fort Collins and Estes Park, burning during the summer and fall, and you get a recipe for very dry, chapped skin. This combo is the best I've found for helping out.

Handmade in Colorado, Inspired by the Rockies

Every Mountain Glow soap is handcrafted in small batches right here in Colorado. Our family and staff has spent years helping customers discover premium olive oils and authentic balsamic vinegars from around the world. As our passion for craftsmanship grew, so did our desire to create products that brought those same premium ingredients into everyday self-care.

Today, many of our soap fragrances begin life as one of our signature candles. Customers fall in love with a scent while burning it at home, then ask if they can enjoy that same fragrance in the shower. So we make both.

This means many of our most popular soaps have coordinating candles, allowing you to layer your favorite fragrance throughout your home. It's become one of our favorite parts of what we do.

Meet Some of Our Favorite Goat Milk Olive Oil Soaps

Because every fragrance tells a different Rocky Mountain story.

Horsetooth Mist

Inspired by mornings along Horsetooth Reservoir, Horsetooth Mist blends fresh water, crisp air, and soft natural greenery into a clean, refreshing fragrance. It's perfect for anyone who enjoys spa-like scents and everyday freshness. This is my favorite. IT's the perfect balance of aquatic and masculine. And if I find out how to make this into deodorant, I will make Shaun wear it.

Sunset Over Red Rocks

Warm desert sage, glowing sandstone, and Colorado sunsets inspired this earthy favorite. It's comforting, sophisticated, and uniquely Colorado. This is Teal's favorite. IT's sweet, bright and glowing, just like her.

Pikes Peak Pines

Fresh alpine pine, evergreen forests, and cool mountain air come together in one of our most outdoors-inspired soaps. If you love hiking, cabins, and mountain mornings, this one feels like home. This reminds me of the the place I was born and raised - Colorado Springs. This is why I named it Pikes Peak Pines - a natural tribute to the pines that grow at tree level on this majestic mountain.

Yeti's Nightcap

Warm vanilla, cozy spices, and comforting sweetness make this a customer favorite year-round. It feels like wrapping yourself in your favorite blanket after a snowy Colorado evening. This is Keagan's favorite, as well as my aunt Lori's favorite. It's very calming, soothing and overall makes the day feel less stressful.

Aspen Afterglow

Golden aspens, amber warmth, and crisp autumn evenings inspired this seasonal favorite that captures one of Colorado's most beautiful moments. Each bar is handcrafted with the same attention to detail we put into every product we create. I thinks this scent smells a little bit like homemade banana bread and crushed fall leaves. Sweet, warm, homey, with a touch of apple, it's a very atmospheric autumnal scent that reminds me of my fall bouldering days when the Aspens would start turning their beautiful colors in Estes Park.
