Overjoyed about Oleato
Bulletproof coffee, coffee with an added fat (usually butter), has long been touted for its hunger reducing and energy boosting properties. Now, there is a new type of bulletproof coffee hitting the scene – Oleato.
Oleato, which means “with oil” in Italian, is the name for a new line of olive oil-infused drinks from Starbucks. The company has already rolled out the new drinks in Milan, but plans to introduce them to the U.S. later this year.
While some may balk at the idea of coffee and olive oil, for me, it makes perfect sense. Extra virgin olive oil is packed with flavor! It can be fruity, floral, green, grassy or even spicy! When emulsified with coffee you get an incredible infusion of flavor that is larger than the sum of its parts – nutty, complex and deep.
Beyond unique flavor, olive oil infused coffee may boost metabolism. It is also a great way to get a dose of antioxidant packed extra virgin olive oil, which has benefits to heart health, blood pressure and cholesterol.
So, find an EVOO you love and try your own oleato drink at home!
Iced Oleato Cappuccino:
- 2 shots espresso, cooled slightly
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup (or more if you like sweeter coffee)
- 1/3 cup unsweetened oat milk or almond milk
- 2 teaspoons Rocky Mountain Olive Oil Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Add the espresso, maple syrup, milk and olive oil to a mason jar filled with ice. Close the jar and shake vigorously for 30 seconds, until the mixture is foamy and well combined. Strain the mixture into a serving glass filled with ice and enjoy!
