When Shaun and I tell people we own olive oil and vinegar stores, people are often confused. We have to explain that there isn’t just one type of olive oil or vinegar, but dozens and dozens. And when you factor in fused and infused olive oils and flavored vinegars, it’s hundreds and hundreds of types. That’s thousands of different combinations of oils and vinegars to make use of in your kitchen.
There are many “classic” flavor combos that you’re likely already familiar reflected in our products – like Mushroom and Sage Olive Oil. Customers also love to buy combos like Strawberry Balsamic and Basil Oil (perfect for salads), or Lemon and Lime (a to die for seafood marinade).
But there are also more “unusual” pairings of olive oils and balsamics. Combos that make people go “what!???” or “that can’t be good”. They may sound downright bizarre but are really quite delicious.
Here are some of our staff’s favorite “unusual” combinations of balsamics and vinegars.
Butter Infused Olive Oil and Cinnamon Pear Dark Balsamic: Creamy butter infused olive oil combines with sweet and spiced balsamic for a warm and comforting blend that is perfect for drizzling into oatmeal or on pancakes.
Gouchujang Infused Olive Oil and Peach White Balsamic: Gochujang Oilve Oil is a spicy, umami “flavor-fest”. When combined with our light, fresh tasting Peach Balsamic you get a sweet and savory, slightly funky mix of flavors that make a great glaze for stir fried veggies or marinade for tofu.
Garlic Infused Olive Oil and Coconut White Balsamic: According to one of our staff members, this pairing “brings you to the tropics!". Use for marinating shrimp, chicken, or tuna for grilling.
Tuscan Herb Olive Oil and Cranberry Pear White Balsamic Vinegar: These are two of our most popular products, and luckily they pair delightfully! We suggest this combo for salads, bread dipping and any Thanksgiving Dish.
Cilantro & Onion Olive Oil and Alfoos Mango Balsamic Vinegar: This “unusual” combo is our September/October featured pairing! The fresh, clean taste of cilantro layers beautifully over the mild, sweet, earthiness of roasted onions and fruitiness of high-quality olives. When mixed with floral and sweet Mango Balsamic you get a combination that is earthy, bright and extremely unique.
Next time you’re shopping our products, be brave, be bold and try one of these unusual (and delectable) combos.
Caio!
