Some Like It Hot
Some Like It Hot
I like a bit of heat in all my food. My marinades usually have a kick of chili or spice. Tacos aren’t complete without a bit of hot sauce – heck I even prefer my hot chocolate with a few shakes of cinnamon.
Spice and heat may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s certainly mine, and some my favorite products in our store are our chili flavored olive oils.
What are Chili Flavored Olive Oils?
Authentic chili flavored olive oils fall into two separate categories – fused and infused.
Fused chili olive oils are made by crushing the chili peppers with the olive oil – essentially flavoring the oil as its created.
Infused olive oils are made by adding the peppers and spices to freshly made olive oil and letting them marinate. Over time the olive oil soaks up the flavor, creating richly flavored oils.
Whether fused or infused – these oils pack a punch AND are some of our bestsellers. Learn more about our various spicy oils below and find our some of our favorite ways to use them!
Baklouti Green Chili Fused Olive Oil: This beloved olive oil is back in stock and better than ever! Tunsian bakoulti peppers - grown on Barbary Coast of North Africa - are brought to the mill where the olive oil is made by combining one pound of organic extra virgin olive oil with 1.6 pounds of fresh whole green Baklouti peppers. The result is an extremely flavorful oil full of heat and freshness.
Try it out in some Zesty Cheddar Cheese Cornbread.
Cayenne Chili Pepper Fused Olive Oil: Sure to make your tongue dance! This beloved pepper fused oil packs the heat and is a gorgeous red color.
We like using this oil in Latin American-inspired dishes, including our Spicy Mojo Cubano Shredded Chicken.
Chipotle Chili Fused Olive Oil: The smoky flavor of this chili-fused olive oil is great for marinating steaks and brushing on grilled chicken or seafood. It also makes an excellent dipping oil for artisan breads, finishing oil for soups, pasta or grain dishes, and a wonderful base for dressings and marinades.
One of our go-to marinades combines Chipotle Oil with sweet pineapple white balsamic. Perfect for chicken, pork and tofu!
Gochujang Infused Olive Oil: This oil is a spicy-umami flavor-fest, combining the rich, savory, fermented flavors of the popular Korean condiment with fruity extra virgin olive oil. Use it to marinate, roast or stir-fry veggies, tofu, chicken, pork, or beef. Brush it on shrimp just off the grill. It’s also lovely in dressings and cucumber salad, awesome for frying eggs and EPIC in homemade mayonnaise. We also have Gochujang Sea Salt!
Try it out in Witch’s Brew Salad.
Harissa Infused Olive Oil: Harissa is a blended chili paste popular in North Africa and Middle East. Made with chili peppers, garlic, coriander, cumin and caraway this super spicy oil also has a kick of smokiness. Did we mention it’s also a beautiful orange-red color? Drizzle it on top of pizza and your life will be changed.
